Curly hairstyles

Curly hair can be bliss or a bane. Some individuals with curls lone them while others can never get over the bad hair days. Whether you love it or hate it, you have it and need to tame it. Curly hair tends to be dry and is therefore, vulnerable to humid air as it soaks up moisture. This causes the cuticles to expand, which results in frizz. The secret to keeping frizz at bay involves a deep conditioning treatment, use of products involving silicon, hot oil treatment and regular massage.

One of the biggest myths surrounding curly hair is that it doesn’t leave too many options for hairstyles. But this is not true because one can grow their hair long and make it look settled down and flattering. If you have curly hair and need a haircut, you must keep in mind that the stylist needs to wet it first and comb them thoroughly in order to give a good haircut. After the curls dry they tend to curl up and look shorter. When deciding the length a client desires, the stylist needs to cut the hair half to one inch longer when wet.

Tips for maintaining Curly hair:

Curly hair should always be layered.

If curls are unruly, apply hair spray to the palms and smooth over the hair’s surface.

If hair is long or very curly, you can ‘straighten it’ with a large round or paddle brush, some straightening balm and a blower.

Hairstyles:

There are many hairstyles with curls because the curls append an extra touch to the hairstyles that cannot be duplicated. A drawback in hairstyles with curls is that the hair needs a lot of care. Hairstyles with curls are prone to frizz, stress, split ends, and other hair damages. When the hair is not moisturized, many problems can arise. Women with medium curly hairstyles need to take additional care of their hair because hair is in a medium state where damaged edges and frizzy hair tends to appear. There are many appealing medium curly hairstyles for ladies. Short Hairstyles and medium hairstyles look superb with the addition of some curly strands.

Short Loose Curls: There was a time when short, curly hairstyles were the hottest trend. But now, these hairstyles are just a nice change from the constant short crop or cut. This hairstyle uses very well defined curls to create a great look.

Longer Bouncy Curls: This hairstyle features longer, unbound curls that just seem to naturally fit into the look. It’s a long hairstyle that combines relaxed curls and long hair to frame the facial area and create a charming look. You might have to use hair gel to avoid frizz near the ends.

Light Wavy and Curly: This hairstyle emphasizes larger, wavy curls with lots of definition. Because the curls are loose, there is more frizziness, which makes using a frizz control product a necessity. The light curls of this hairstyle provide a boho wavy look.

Bohemian half-up braids: For hair with a natural wave, use holding foam on wet hair then blow-dry with a diffuser. When dry, randomly curl sections of hair with a one-inch iron, then add two small braids along the hairline and bring them together and pin at the back.

Long Beachy waves: Wrap sections of air-dried hair around a 1 ½-inch curling iron, holding each section for 15 seconds. Rub a shine serum between the palms of your hands and lightly lift the waves to your head. Avoid ‘scrunching’ as it can crush the wave.

One should not feel that curly hair is a drawback because these days there are a lot of facilities like gadgets and hair care products to maintain your look. It is also important that if you’re going in for curly hair, it should complement your face. Across the ages, poets have described women in poems with beautiful long curly cascades and even today, curly hair can be used by women to accentuate their looks.

I think curly hair is beautiful. I have really thick curly hair myself. The only problem I have with it.... is that I would really like to cut it short like above the shoulders. I don't know if I could.. So I wonder if you have any ideas for me.

I have thick curly hair and like it but am tired of the same hair cut year after year. I want to try something new but I'm afraid of it turning out badly.

I can tell you both I got a short haircut the last time. I have very thick curly hair and decided it was time for a change. I then grew my hair out to well past my shoulders in order to cut it off for charity. I got it cut so that, when dry, it was about 1/2 inch off my shoulder with long layers.

I absolutely fell in love with this hairstyle. It's easier to straighten when I want to and I can put some mousse in it, bend over and shake up my hair and it looks adorable. If you do this, I would also recommend buying some cute clips for your hair as well. One style I love using is taking the very top of my hair (I measure between the middle of my eyes) and pulling it back and holding with with a sparkly clip. It's adorable.

I wouldn't be afaird to try something new, something fresh. You might just turn some heads. Doing something different is NEVER a ungly thing, its a unquie thing. I wish you the best of luck, Amelia.
I hope you find that hairstlye you like!
I know I'm always trying to come up with new styles for my hair...I just can't find mine right now!

I have always had thick long curly hair and last year had it cut short. I love it! the curls are now lighter and more defined, it is so much easier to have nice curls with it short.

My hair is so annoying to comb everyday. It's long thick and very, very curly. I am thinking of cutting it just below my shoulders so it can be easier to manage.

I have long curly hair and everyone loves it! I've straightened it for the last 2-3 years and I loved it straight because it was a lot easier to mess with but now I'm going into high school and i want to wear it curly but don't want It to be hard and crunchy from my mousse. Is there anything that will make it soft and natural looking?

I have curly hair and i got it cut shorter and i liked it because it was a lot lighter but it will get to an akward length and there isnt as many styles to do with my hair and i just cant wait for it to grow back.

@Jane - I know where you're coming from - I did the "straight-hair" thing for a year and it completely damaged my hair. Since then I've worn it long and curly. Here's what I do: Shower at night, then comb it out when it's wet and put a lightweight hair serum in it (like BioSilk or an off-brand). Go to bed with it wet, so that in the morning it's dry and not frizzy. Clip it up to keep the curl while you get ready, then right before you leave put a small amount of hair gel (strength 7) in it while crunching. I also carry the clip around with me during the day in case I feel like it's getting frizzy - the longer it's clipped up, the less frizzy it will get as the day goes on. Good luck!
