Drug Induced Hair Loss
Hair loss is a severe problem and there are many reasons for hair loss. Hair loss may occur due to improper diet, exposure to sunlight, excessive use of hair styling products, wrong use of hair care products, prolonged medical illness, use of chemical treatments on the hair etc. One of the major reasons for hair loss is the use of prescribed drugs. These drugs can lead to hair loss either temporarily or permanently.
People suffer from various kinds of diseases during their life time. When they go to the doctor for the treatment, he may prescribe certain drugs that may result into hair loss. However, the doctor may not tell you about the side effects related to those drugs. Thus, whenever a doctor prescribes any kind of drug for any treatment, ask him if the drug has hair loss as one of the side effects.
If yes, then ask him to replace the drug with some other substitute if possible. One may even ask the pharmacist whether the drug has any kind of side effect. It is very important to guard yourself against drug induced hair loss, as hair loss due to such a case may be disastrous, thus leading to even complete baldness.
The treatments with respect to acne, ulcer, cancer, high cholesterol, depression, glaucoma, gout, inflammation, and thyroid disorders involve the use of strong drugs that may pose many kinds of side effects. Most of the drugs that are used in treating these medical conditions have hair loss as one of the disastrous side effects.
Thus, it is recommended to live a healthy life style with proper diet and exercise, while taking proper care of the hair side by side. This would help a great deal in preventing the occurrence of any serious diseases; the treatment of which may have hair loss as one of the major side effects. However, if one has to face any severe medical problem, then make sure to confirm from the doctor that the prescribed drug does not pose hair loss as a side effect.
