Dry Brushing Massage

Dry brushing massage is an ancient technique of brushing your skin that has been widely used by different cultures of Greece and Rome. Strigiles, a curved shaped spoon, was used as an instrument to scrub the skin before having a bath.

Garsana massage, as an ayurvedic practice, makes use of silk or wool glove for dry massage. Dry skin massage is very effective in encouraging blood circulation. The blood flow gets improved as a result of this. It also helps to stimulate the immune system and detoxifies the body.

Many different options are available these days for dry brushing massage. A sisal brush is very effective as it gives more control. A natural brush with a handle is also very effective as it helps to reach the back. A bath glove made of natural fibers may also be used. One can choose any of them, depending upon the comfort level.

Utmost care must be taken while doing massage. Make sure that you do massage towards your heart. This helps a great deal to increase the blood flow and blood circulation. If one does massage in the opposite direction, i.e. away from your heart, the pressure on the veins is increased, thus causing damage. Massage in a circular motion at the soles of your feet. Then move in an upward circular movement to the top of your feet, progressing towards your ankles, calves and thighs.

Massaging the abdomen in a circular movement, from left to right, helps in improving the digestive system. Follow the same pattern while massaging the hips. Move gently towards the chest as the area is very sensitive. Also brush up the forearms and the upper arms. Start brushing downwards towards the heart when you reach the shoulders. Repeat the same process while brushing your back.

This is how you do dry brushing massage of the entire body. The skin tone improves to a great extent by including this practice into your daily routine. It provides a feeling of freshness and should be done before going for a bath.
