Hair Infections During Monsoons
June 30, 2009
Constant wetting of hair during monsoons may look sexy but wet hair exposed to humidity may result in a number of scalp problems. It is very important to maintain a strict hair care routine to keep your hair in good shape. Rain water along with humid weather can promote bacteria and fungus leading to hair infections like:
Lice infections:
Lice breed during the rainy season and are very common infestations. The worst thing about such infections is that it is easily transferable and even hygiene conscious individuals can get infected. If suffering from lice apply Per lice and leave it on for a couple of hours before washing it off. If this does not help, it is a good idea to visit a skin specialist.
Boils:
Pus filled boils on the scalp are also very common during the rainy season. These irritating boils are severely painful and also cause heavy itching which could lead to the boils to increase. These boils can also result in hair loss in the affected area and is very common among children. It is a good idea to wash hair with a shampoo that contains Betadine AD twice a week.
Dandruff:
Dandruff is another problem that increases during the rainy season. This also results in itchiness of the scalp which could lead to hair loss.
Regular shampooing and conditioning is important to keep hair clean and free from infections. It is also important to keep hair dry during the monsoons. If possible, shampoo hair daily during monsoons with a mild shampoo if you visit outdoors everyday.
Conditioning is very important as the excess humidity in air during monsoons makes the hair frizzy. A conditioner will be able to smooth the hair. Various anti– frizz serums, gels, balms and conditioners are available if you have very frizzy hair.
Keep your hair dry using a hair dryer which has a diffuser attachment with it. Keep the appliance six to eight inches away from hair. If you plan to colour, perm or style your hair, it is advised to wait until the monsoon season is over as these treatments would not work at their best during the season.
Finally it is important to keep hair and scalp nourished with a high protein diet which contains plenty of nuts, whole grains, olive oil and eggs as they are high in biotin. Biotin is the vitamin that stimulates hair growth.
