Hair loss is a problem that is of great concern, and poses various kinds of issues in the mind of an individual. People may often consider it as a very mysterious condition, where the reason for hair loss may sometimes be unknown.
The common conditions of hair loss include aging, severe illness, genetic factors, hormonal imbalance, prolonged illness, excessive intake of certain medicines, improper care of the hair, lack of nutrients in the hair, excessive exposure to heat etc. Apart from these cases, there may be certain other cases of hair loss which may even surprise the experts who deal in the problem of hair loss.
It has been discovered that excess of mercury in the body may lead to the problem of hair loss. Consumption of fish like tile fish, king mackerel, shark and swordfish in excessive amount may result in accumulation of a lot of mercury in the body, which may result into serious problem of hair loss.
Mercury poisoning can be very serious and may lead to nausea, exhaustion, mental fuzziness, neurological problems and unexplained headaches. Apart from fish, mercury poisoning can occur due to water and air also. Nasal sprays, fluorescent lights, and batteries also contain mercury.
The hair specialists and the dermatologists may also be unaware of the problem of hair loss due to the excessive levels of mercury in the body. This causes a very fishy situation with respect to the problem of hair loss. In order to treat the problem of hair loss due to mercury poisoning, it is very important that an individual reduces the amount of fish intake.
Apart from mercury as a reason for hair loss that might pose several concerns, drugs used to treat hypertension and blood pressure may also lead to hair loss. These drugs contain potassium thiocyanate, which may have a harmful impact on the hair. Hair bleach may also result in hair loss as it contains mercury in large quantity. Drugs that are used to treat cancer may also result in hair loss.
Thus, if one is unable to diagnose the condition of hair loss, it is recommended to seek hair specialist’s advice and confirm whether there is no major reason for hair loss such as mercury poisoning or other harmful drugs.
