Henna Powder for Hair
Henna is a flowering plant that is used by almost all cultures. It is used to paint intricate designs on the skin, colour finger nails and also dye hair. Henna is the best way to colour your hair naturally without causing any damage. Plus it also works as a great conditioner to nourish hair as it does not contain any chemicals. The multi tonal colour alternative is simple and effective to apply.
Choosing: Make sure you choose genuine and pure henna powder. Henna brands that come in different colour shades like mahogany, copper or other shades are not pure. Also read the ingredients on the packaging. Pure henna powders would contain no other ingredient other than Lawsonia inermis.
Testing: Doing a strand test, is a good way to check if the henna powder you have chosen is right for you. Henna produces various colours on different hair. Take a strand of hair and soak it in the henna mix. Apart from the new colour itself, it is important to note the texture of the hair as well. A lot of times hair becomes dry and brittle and may require some moisturizing treatment like a moisturizing pack or application of moisturizing lotion.
Mixing: Henna powder can be mixed with various other things like water or yogurt. If acids like lime juice, vinegar or red wine is added to the powder, the process of dye release will speed up. Adding additives like spices, oils, herbal powders will not impact the dye but will disguise the henna smell. It is important to mix the henna in a stain – proof bowl and cover it with a plastic wrap until the henna releases its colour. The henna mixture is ready when it turns orange.
Applying: Make sure your hair is dry. Apply the henna mixture by sectioning the hair. Divide the hair in different sections and work on them separately. Apply the mixture using a brush and wrap it on the top. Continue for all sections. Leave on the henna for 3 hours and then rinse it off with warm water.
