Know Your Hair
In order to have healthy and strong hair is very important to have knowledge about the hair. Lack of knowledge can cause damage to the hair and may restrict the hair growth process.
Therefore, it is very important for an individual to have proper knowledge about the hair, so that the process of hair growth takes place in a healthy manner. Let us here have an insight into some important aspects with respect to the hair.
The growth of the hair takes place from the follicles that lie inside the skin. Hair roots lie inside the hair follicle. The hair that is seen projecting from head is known as hair shaft.
The hair receives the nutrients in hair bulb which is located at the hair root’s base. The formation of the new cells also takes place in hair bulb.
Hair follicle contains dermal papilla, arrector pili, and sebaceous gland. Dermal papilla helps in feeding the blood and the essential nutrients to hair bulb. Arrector pili helps in responding to the cold or fearful stimulus, which makes the hair contract or stand straight. Sebaceous gland helps in maintaining the health and the shine of the hair.
There are three layers of the hair shaft viz cuticle, cortex, and medulla. Most of the hair are composed of protein and has many kinds of amino acids. Amino acids are composed of hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur. These are combined together with peptide bonds.
The extended chains of peptide bonds have been termed as polypeptide chains, which are combined with side bonds. Side bonds are of three types, viz disulfide bonds, hydrogen bonds, and salt bonds. The moisture and the heat break the hydrogen bond and the salt bond. There are very less number of diffuser bonds in the hair. However, these diffuser bonds are stronger than the other bonds.
These were some of the important aspects related to hair. One must know about these things, so that an individual can take proper care of the hair and have healthy and strong hair.
