The Link Between Birth Control and Acne
Many people are seen suffering from the problem of acne. There are a lot of treatments available in the market these days to cure acne, such as minocycline and benzyl peroxide. Apart from these treatments, it has been medically researched that the birth control pills are also very effective in dealing with acne. There is no doubt that it is very strange, but there is a really a relation between acne and birth control pills.
The theory behind the relation between birth control pills and acne is very simple. It is very well known that there is a change in the hormones in pregnancy. So, taking birth control pills is also going to change the hormones of an individual. It is also known that there is a change in the hormones when an individual faces the problem of acne. It is the androgen that helps in stimulating the production of oil, thus increasing acne.
When a lady takes the birth control pills, the androgen levels are affected, thus having an impact on the acne. It has been noticed that there has been a great improvement in the skin of the women who have been taking the birth control pills, such as Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
However, it is not necessary that the problem of acne and blemishes would be solved in all the women taking birth control pills. Apart from taking the birth control pills, hygiene and proper diet also matter a lot. The hereditary factor and the type of skin also matter a lot in taking care of acne.
There are many kinds of risks associated with birth control pills such as blood clots, weight gain, abdominal pain, headaches, fatigue, mood swings, irregular periods, yeast infections, nausea, heart attacks, depression, cancer and strokes.
Due to this reason, the doctors do not prescribe the birth control pills as the treatment for acne. It is in very rare circumstances that the use of birth control pills is recommended to treat acne.
