Thyroid Hair Loss
Hair loss is a problem of great concern and requires immediate attention. There are many reasons for hair loss, such as improper diet, lack of nutrition, climatic change, and prolonged medical treatment etc. Hair loss can also occur due to some hormonal imbalance.
It is true that hormones have intense impact on the quality of the hair and the hair follicles. Estrogens, DHEA and throxine are the hormones which influence hair loss. Apart from these, underactivity and hyperactivity hormones also cause hair loss. Hair loss due to these hormones is termed as thyroid hair loss.
Hormones derived from the thyroid gland have an influence on the hair follicles. The thyroid gland also influences the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and minerals. Deficiency or excess of hormones derived form the thyroid gland result in hair loss. Hair loss can also act as a symptom of thyroid. This is considered as the worst symptom of thyroid problem.
Thinning of hair, changes in the texture of hair making them look dry, coarse or frizzy are the indication of thyroid problem. Various thyroid diseases are overproduction of thyroid hormone, underproduction of thyroid hormone, benig non cancerous thyroid disease or thyroid cancer.
Thyroid hair loss can occur not only on the head, but also on the eyebrows and other parts of the body. A person should immediately consult the doctor or a dermatologist to solve the problem. It is very important to cure the thyroid problem. Regular dosage of thyroid hormones is given to the patient to cure the disease.
The doctors are extremely careful while giving the dosage as too high or too low dosage may create some side effects. The dosage is continuously given unless the level of hormones in the patient’s blood comes back to normal. After that the problem of hair loss also starts to improve. It may take arous 3-6 months to get back to the normal hair.
