Tips On Taking Care of Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are a very good way to add length to the already existing hair. However, taking care of the hair extensions can be a bit cumbersome.

Let us here discuss some of the ways of taking care of the hair extensions.

It is very important to ensure that the hair extensions are not washed immediately after attaching them with the natural hair. A time lag of around 72 hours should be taken to shampoo the hair extensions after the procedure of attaching them is complete.

While shampooing the hair extensions, it is very important to make sure not to scrub them. The conditioner should be applied from the middle of the hair extensions till the ends. The scalp area should be avoided.

While blow drying the hair extensions, make sure to keep the heat setting at the lowest level. Cool drying is always preferred.

Products containing alcohol, sulphur and acetone should be avoided.

The hair extensions should be brushed with the help of a brush that is wire-looped. Hair brushing should be done several times in a day. The hair at the nape are brushed first, and then the brushing of the hair is proceeded in an upward direction.

Make sure not to use a comb with wide teeth to remove the tangles from the hair extensions.

The hair extensions get loose over time. Also some of the hair strands are lost. Therefore it is recommended to go to the hair dresser after two or three weeks to have a proper inspection and maintenance of the hair extensions, and get the replacement done of loose and lost strands of hair extensions.

In order to prevent the tangles in the hair extensions, it is recommended to tie the hair into a bun or a ponytail while sleeping.

The hair extensions may get severely damaged due to the sea water and the chemicals in the swimming pool. Thus, it is recommended to wear swim cap on the hair while swimming. Also, the hair extensions should be immediately washed after swimming.

Use of curling irons and hot rollers on the hair extensions should be avoided near the area where there are bonds.
